Being caught in the rat race is exhausting and depressing. Working hard every day and not being where you want to be or doing what you wish you could be doing, makes you feel like you need a magic genie to help you escape your real life. I felt that way when I was in my thirties. I had this heavy feeling that I wasn't doing what I really wanted. You know, being True to myself to my very core. The funny thing was I was in a good position. I had a new house, My kids were healthy, I had a little home business, I have a good hard working husband....BUT......I wasn't feeling it.
Now, when I think back to my childhood my father used to say I was going to marry a farmer. He saw it but, was off just a little. He should of said YOUR going to be a farmer. That's the real me down to my very core.
I don't mean the big industrial farmers we see and (don't really like) today, but the good old fashion kind. You know the homesteaders that founded this country. The humble, hard working, lots of skills, self sufficient kind of farmer. There are not too many of those left, but that is me.
It took me about six years to get into position to my new life, then I started my new life by building my own log cabin. I never felt happier living in a tent cooking on the campfire and working HARD every day. Way harder than in my old life but I was feeling it now. Happy, Happy, Happy! I am in my forties now and am sooo glad I am really being me.
It's never too late to start over and escape to your new life. Your real life.

SLOW AND STEADY
Slow and steady is a good thing. We all know who won the race, Tortoise. He felt good when he got there because he had a nap on the way. That's how I want to live my life.
Getting things accomplished while I feel good, and enjoying the journey along the way. You all know I want to raise as much of my own food as I can. That takes some doing. I put the posts in the ground last year for my multiple purpose meat pen. I made it 16x16. I figure I can raise meat chickens in the spring and a hog in the fall. Well, I just bought the hog panels to finish the pen. I am building a really good pen that will last years so I don't have to worry about it. This will be the first time I raise meat chickens.
Stay tuned to Beckysfarm.tv to see how it goes. In about a year I hope to get a dairy goat for milk and cheese. YUM

Thinking Ahead
When it's cold and I am stuck in the house more than I like, I spend time thinking ahead. I am thinking garden, what I need to do to improve it a bit this year. I know I need taller fencing. The chicken wire doesn't keep my hens out. They are very determined girls. I also need a better hoe. I just ordered one from Lehmans. I like all there stuff. It's simple but works well. So this spring I hope to plant more stuff then last year. I also want to raise some meat this year. I have all the post in for the pen. All I need are the wire panels. I hope to get them today. My goal is to raise as much of my own food as I can. I can only do things bit by bit. I don't want to use credit and make bills. Bit by bit is fine, I am used to it now. I am over the instant gratification mindset. Owing sucks!! When You are cash and carry it feels SOO GOOD. It takes time to get to that point but it's worth it.
