I LOVE The Sunny Weather
I just love the sunny weather!
I get so motivated to get the garden going. I never loose the desire to grow a garden, even though I am not that good yet. I am finding that gardening is definitely a skill. A skill worth developing.
A friend of mine has goats and we will be making goat milk soap soon. She has never made soap, I have but only lye soap. One reason I like homemade soap is that it doesn't melt away fast. One bar last. You don't realize how fast store bought soap melts until you try homemade. Theirs a big difference.
I plan on getting a dairy goat in the fall. I can't wait. I get everything ready first. Then bring the animal home last. Less problems. I try to avoid problems and increase joy! I want to make cheese, soap and I like to drink milk.
I will be ordering some meat birds (chickens) pretty soon. We will see how that whole process goes. I know some people don't like that idea but I buy chicken from the store anyway and I know the big commercial meat producer don't care about the comfort of the chicken. I know the end is the same for the chicken but I would rather live a happy life and die, then a crappy life and die. That's how I feel.
I got the best deal on a horse trailer through being neighborly and just chit chatting with people. I am always suprised at the deals I get. It's a two horse slant load aluminum skin with a dressing room. five hundred bucks. I sold my old horse trailer a few years ago to help build my cabin. You know how you have to do what it takes when your on a mission.
Happy Homesteading!

A Little Personal
I don't usually Talk about my "private" life. You know how some things are fine for the whole world to see and just a few things are private. Marrage to me is rather private because a relationship between two people is huge and a lot goes on through the years. It's all good To me.
OK, I do have a nice hard working husband, Who is nerdy and an inside person. I do all the building, farming, training, gardening, you know the outside stuff. I have a lot of energy and love, love, love my farm. I feel soo happy that my husband lets me be myself.
We have respect for each other. I think of Dolly Parton, it seems like her husband is like that. It meant a lot that my nerdy inside husband moved into a tent and started from scratch like we did. His reward is he doesn't have a mortgage for the rest of his life. He is loving that!! He will feed my horses if I go away, But he needs the whip for security. Ha/Ha.
One thing I like about him is that He's a really good cook. We all love to cook. Yum! We have two grown sons. Scott is the director of my show and James is a musician, drummer. Both creative YAAA!! So there you are, Becky's Farm Family.

Escape The Rat Race And Start Your New Life
Being caught in the rat race is exhausting and depressing. Working hard every day and not being where you want to be or doing what you wish you could be doing, makes you feel like you need a magic genie to help you escape your real life. I felt that way when I was in my thirties. I had this heavy feeling that I wasn't doing what I really wanted. You know, being True to myself to my very core. The funny thing was I was in a good position. I had a new house, My kids were healthy, I had a little home business, I have a good hard working husband....BUT......I wasn't feeling it.
Now, when I think back to my childhood my father used to say I was going to marry a farmer. He saw it but, was off just a little. He should of said YOUR going to be a farmer. That's the real me down to my very core.
I don't mean the big industrial farmers we see and (don't really like) today, but the good old fashion kind. You know the homesteaders that founded this country. The humble, hard working, lots of skills, self sufficient kind of farmer. There are not too many of those left, but that is me.
It took me about six years to get into position to my new life, then I started my new life by building my own log cabin. I never felt happier living in a tent cooking on the campfire and working HARD every day. Way harder than in my old life but I was feeling it now. Happy, Happy, Happy! I am in my forties now and am sooo glad I am really being me.
It's never too late to start over and escape to your new life. Your real life.

SLOW AND STEADY
Slow and steady is a good thing. We all know who won the race, Tortoise. He felt good when he got there because he had a nap on the way. That's how I want to live my life.
Getting things accomplished while I feel good, and enjoying the journey along the way. You all know I want to raise as much of my own food as I can. That takes some doing. I put the posts in the ground last year for my multiple purpose meat pen. I made it 16x16. I figure I can raise meat chickens in the spring and a hog in the fall. Well, I just bought the hog panels to finish the pen. I am building a really good pen that will last years so I don't have to worry about it. This will be the first time I raise meat chickens.
Stay tuned to Beckysfarm.tv to see how it goes. In about a year I hope to get a dairy goat for milk and cheese. YUM
